Structured Investments

First Trust Portfolios L.P. offers structured investments in conjunction with various issuers. Structured investments provide a means of linking traditional fixed income products, such as corporate notes and certificates of deposit, to the performance of equities or other asset classes. Volatile stock markets have created a demand for products that provide growth potential and reduce risk in a declining market. Structured investments are designed to meet those objectives by providing various levels of principal protection, unique payoff features and access to a broad range of asset classes and market sectors. There are new offerings each month as well as education courses and material offered on our financial representative website.

Structured Notes
Structured notes have been available for many years worldwide, but only recently became popular in the U.S. as a result of volatile market conditions. Investors have increasingly sought out new approaches to investing that offer some form of security along with exposure to potential growth. These versatile products link fixed income corporate notes to the performance of underlying equities or other assets. The customized risk and return profiles of structured notes can generally be suitable for many types of portfolios, with a wide range of available options.
Market-Linked CDs
First Trust Portfolios L.P. offers market linked certificates of deposit (cds) in conjunction with certain issuing banks. These cds are linked to the performance of a specific market index or basket of indices over a period of time. While providing upside potential via the increased value of the basket, depositors receive full principal protection, and, where applicable, a minimum return when held until maturity. The cds are deposit obligations of the issuing bank and the principal and the accrued minimum return amount, if any, are FDIC insured up to the applicable limits set by federal law and regulation. The principal protection is not available if the cd is sold prior to maturity.
Educational Resources
We provide education on the fundamentals as well as a higher level of understanding on commonly available structures.
Continuing Education
First Trust Portfolios L.P. offers continuing education courses to financial representatives on Structured Investments.
