Today marks the 50th anniversary of Boston’s self-titled debut album, which became the best-selling debut LP in the U.S. at the time. Boston cost just $28,000 to produce and has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. Most songs featured on the debut were recorded in Tom Scholz’s basement in Watertown, Massachusetts. Scholz, who founded the group, modified existing technology, even designing and building some of his own recording gear to create the band’s unique sound.
