Reuters reported that China’s thermal power generation totaled 2.53 trillion kilowatt-hours over the first five months of 2026, an increase of 3.4% year-over-year. The increase in thermal power production, which is largely coal-based, reverses a decline that marked 2025 as the first year in a decade in which China’s coal-based power generation fell.
