The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that it approved 33 new drugs year-to-date through 10/7/25, according to its own release. The total falls just short of the 34 new drugs approved over the same period in 2024, as well as the 40 approved over the time frame in 2023. The FDA approved a record 59 novel drugs during the 2018 calendar year. For comparative purposes, the FDA approved a total of 50 new drugs in 2024, down from 55 approvals in 2023.
